The Village of Winthrop Harbor provides 24/7 emergency communications and dispatch services for both the Winthrop Harbor Police Department and the Winthrop Harbor Fire Department through a strategic partnership with the City of Waukegan.

This partnership allows our community to benefit from a fully staffed, modern, and highly trained emergency communications center that operates around the clock. When a resident or visitor dials 911 from anywhere in Winthrop Harbor, the call is immediately answered by professional public safety telecommunicators in Waukegan who are specially trained to handle police, fire, and emergency medical calls.

Dispatchers coordinate the rapid deployment of Winthrop Harbor police officers, firefighters, and paramedics, while maintaining direct communication with responding units throughout each incident. This system provides reliable, efficient call handling and ensures that emergency resources are deployed quickly and appropriately based on the nature of each call.

This shared services model strengthens emergency response, improves reliability and redundancy, and ensures that residents of Winthrop Harbor receive the same high level of emergency communications support available in larger municipalities,  while maintaining full local control over police and fire operations.
