Local government is where community truly comes to life. Unlike other levels of government, municipalities are on the front line, shaping the services, programs, and decisions that touch our daily lives. From safe streets and reliable water service, to parks, recreation, and economic development, local government provides the foundation for a thriving community.
In Winthrop Harbor, the Mayor and Village Board proudly serve as the guiding body of our Village. Their role is not only to set policies and establish priorities, but also to listen closely to residents and ensure that decisions reflect the needs and values of our community. They are neighbors, partners, and advocates—working every day to make sure Winthrop Harbor remains a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
The Mayor and Trustees are committed to transparent and responsive leadership. They believe in open dialogue, accessible decision-making, and fostering a spirit of collaboration between residents, businesses, and Village staff. By working together, the Village Board helps turn community goals into real, meaningful improvements that strengthen our quality of life today while planning for the opportunities of tomorrow.
The Village Board of Winthrop Harbor serves as the governing body for our community, working collaboratively to guide the vision, policies, and priorities of the Village. Comprised of the Village President and six Trustees, the Board is committed to maintaining a transparent, responsive, and fiscally responsible local government that serves the best interests of our residents, businesses, and visitors.
The Village President, also known as the Mayor, is the chief executive officer of the Village and presides over all Village Board meetings. The President represents the Village in intergovernmental matters and ensures that the policies set by the Board are effectively implemented by Village staff.
The six elected Trustees are responsible for adopting ordinances and resolutions, approving the annual budget, and setting the strategic direction for Village services and infrastructure. Each Trustee brings unique insights and experiences that help shape Winthrop Harbor’s future.
The Village Board holds regular meetings on the third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall. Meetings are open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend and participate. Meeting agendas and minutes are available online for public review.
Residents are welcome to reach out to the Village President or Trustees with questions, feedback, or ideas. We value your input and encourage community involvement in the decision-making process.
