Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

The Village of Winthrop Harbor Police Department is accepting applications for experienced sworn police officers through our lateral hire process. Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Certified police officer through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB), or eligible for an ILETSB waiver. Qualified Wisconsin law enforcement officers are encouraged to apply.

• Minimum of two (2) years of continuous full-time service as a sworn law enforcement officer with a municipal, county, or state agency.

• Currently in good standing with their employing agency and eligible for rehire.

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

• Must successfully pass all phases of the hiring process, which may include a background investigation, reference checks, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screening

• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a police vehicle.

• Ability to obtain certification with ILETSB and comply with all applicable Illinois training requirements.

Additional Information

• No residency requirement.

• Qualified lateral officers may be eligible for a hiring incentive of up to $20,000.

• Vacation benefits are awarded through a progressive program recognizing prior full-time sworn law enforcement service.

12 Month Probation Period  $83,787.00 (Step 2 Collective Bargaining Agreement) 

Top Patrol Officer Pay $99,427 After 1 Year
